"...My men will haul them [cedar and pine logs] down from Lebanon to the sea, and I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you specify." Hiram King of Tyre by letter to Solomon, 1 Kings 5:9
I imagine a scene from Twain's Huckleberry Finn with Jim and Huck riding a raft of cedar logs from Lebanon. I would have liked to have been one of those guys floating the logs on the sea. What adventures and stories surround that trip of logs destined for King Solomon's temple? Did anyone who worked that project suffer harm? Did anything miraculous happen along the way? Did any of these men who floated the logs travel years later to Jerusalem to see what had become of the timber? What were the common man's thoughts as they worked on the temple? Did they know the story? Did they recount the deeds of the God of Israel? The stories of Egypt and the mysterious plagues and the parting of the sea and the cloud and fire guiding them? Think of the years of opportunity and the people the story touched as they raised this remarkable building. Several hundreds of thousands working on the temple. Think of the stories they told as the years rolled on and the structure took shape.
What inspires me to tell the story of what God has done?
