In his time of trouble, King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the Lord. 2 Chronicles 28:22He [Hezekiah] did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done.... There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him.... And the Lord was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook. 2 Kings 18:3-7
Very cool. The cycle can end. You can rise up and decide you will not follow in the footsteps of your father. You can go your own way. You can do what is right. With the power of God. Ahaz does evil. Hezekiah does what is right. Who taught Hezekiah to follow the Lord's will? His mother or grandparents? Aunt, Uncle? Just an unnamed servant in the king's household? It could have been any of them. We all have the power to change the world when we change a life.
Who was it that influenced Hezekiah's heart and so influenced the course of history?
Lord knows.
