"Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land...." [Deut. 34:1]
Moses sets off on his last trek. Hasn't all of Moses' life with God been a journey? Bumping, rocking and riding the Nile's current in a basket as a baby; escaping into the desert after slaying an Egyptian; leading the people to the Promised Land and then wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. So it's fitting his last few hours of this life are spent walking up a mountain.
It would have been incredible to make that walk with him. Hiking up a mountain is a wonderful time for reflection. There's just something about it - the effort of making the climb, all that you see along the way, stopping to notice something you'd passed over before, the feeling of being alive in nature, the pause to catch your breath and seeing a wildflower or an animal cross your path - you can't help in the slow step-by-step-by-step of the trip to have your mind wander far afield and reflect. On where you've been and where you're going. Who or what will be there to greet you.
A million things must have passed through Moses' mind on that last trek. And then standing with God to look out over the land.
For Moses, it was only the start of the journey.
